In the Spring: April 16 - May 1, 2010

"delightful and silly" --NEXT magazine

Our Spring show is the hilarious farce Act a Lady by Jordan Harrison, a graduate of the Brown Playwriting program and an up-and-coming new voice in American Theatre. He is the recipient of a 2009 Hodder Fellowship at Princeton University, the 2008 Kesselring Fellowhip, the Heideman Award, Jerome and McKnight Fellowships, and a NEA/TCG Playwright in Residence Grant.  Act a Lady premiered at the 2006 Humana Festival at the Actors Theatre of Louisville.

"Part 'Waiting for Guffman' and part 'Dangerous Liaisons'" --Cleveland Plain Dealer

When the men of a small Prohibition-era town decide to put on a play dressed in "fancy-type, women-type clothes," the whole community is affected: gender lines blur, eyebrows raise, identities explode, and life and art are forever entangled.

"a source of camp pleasures and a fount of social commentary" --American Theatre

A thoughtful and exuberant Midwestern fable about the woman in every man, the man in every woman and the power of theatre to uncover both. Accompanied by accordion (music by Michael Friedman). Without doubt the most ambitious and complicated play Theatre on Fire has ever undertaken, Act a Lady promises to be a rollicking, celebratory climax to our first five years!

"smoothly entertaining...imaginative" --Variety
